Before you book

Ten facials is too many. Start with the problem.

Don't pick by name or by price. Pick by what's actually bothering you, and the right one is usually obvious.

Book the wrong one? It's not a problem.

Nothing is locked in until you're in the chair. We look at your skin before we start, and if a different facial suits it better on the day we'll say so and change it, including downward. We'd rather move you from the $100 to the $50 and see you again in six weeks.

On the day

What actually happens in a facial

The steps are broadly the same across the menu, what changes is the products, the depth and the time spent on each.

Skin consultation

A proper look under good light, plus what you use at home and anything recent, a peel, a new active, a holiday's worth of sun. This decides the products, not the booking name.

Cleanse

Double cleansed, because sunscreen and long-wear makeup don't come off in one pass and everything after this depends on a clean surface.

Exfoliate

The dull surface layer lifted away. Gentle, and matched to what your skin can take that day rather than what the treatment name implies.

Extraction, if you need it

Only where there's congestion, and only as much as the skin will give up without a fight. Forcing extractions is how people end up worse off than they arrived.

Massage and mask

The part everyone remembers. Facial massage through the jaw and temples, then a mask suited to your skin while you lie there and do nothing at all.

Serum, moisturiser, SPF

Finished and protected. You'll get a short rundown of what to leave alone for the next couple of days, not a shelf of products you didn't ask for.

Protect the result

Before and after

Most of the benefit is won or lost in the 48 hours either side, not in the treatment room.

In the days before

  • Stop retinol, tretinoin and acid exfoliants three to five days ahead.
  • No scrubs, peels or facial waxing in the few days beforehand.
  • Don't book straight off sunburn or a heavy sun day.
  • Come with a clean face if you can. It all comes off anyway.
  • Bring the names of any prescription skincare you're using.
  • Getting brows done too? Thread first, facial after.

For the next two days

  • Leave makeup off for a few hours if you can manage it.
  • No gym, sauna, steam or swimming that day.
  • Lukewarm showers for 24 hours, not hot.
  • Retinol and acids stay off for two to three days.
  • Don't pick at anything that surfaces, it'll settle on its own.
  • SPF the next morning, without fail.
Good to know

Facial questions, answered

What is a hydra facial?

A hydradermabrasion treatment that deep-cleanses, gently exfoliates and infuses your skin with hydrating serums in one 60-minute session ($100). Skin looks plumper and brighter straight away, with no downtime.

What is the O3+ facial with LED light therapy?

A 60-minute facial using the O3+ professional range, finished under LED light. It's the one to book when skin is congested and dull at the same time, which is the gap between a deep cleanse and a brightening treatment. $60.

Which facial is right for me?

Dull or dehydrated skin loves the Hydra Facial. Fine lines call for the Anti-Ageing Facial. For tan removal and brightening, choose the D-Tan Facial, and if you're short on time, the 30-minute Express Facial. Unsure? Ask us when you arrive.

How often should I get a facial?

Every 4–6 weeks matches your skin's renewal cycle. Before a wedding or big event, book 3–5 days ahead so your skin settles into its full glow on the day.

Is there any downtime?

No, our facials are gentle and non-invasive. At most, mild redness for an hour or so. Skip makeup for the rest of the day and wear sunscreen.

How should I prepare for a facial?

Stop retinol, tretinoin and acid exfoliants three to five days beforehand, and skip scrubs and facial waxing in the days before. Don't book straight after a heavy sun day.

Come with a clean face if you can, and bring the names of any prescription skincare you're using.

What should I do afterwards?

Leave your skin alone for the rest of the day: no makeup for a few hours if you can manage it, no gym, sauna or swimming, and lukewarm showers rather than hot. Keep retinol and acids off for two to three days.

Wear SPF the next morning without fail, freshly exfoliated skin burns faster.

Can I have a facial before a wedding or event?

Yes, and timing is the thing to get right. Book about a week beforehand rather than the day before, so anything that surfaces after extraction has time to settle.

If it's your first facial with us, don't make it the week of your wedding. Book a trial one a month or two out so we both know how your skin responds. There's a dedicated Bridal Facial at $60 over 90 minutes, and a month-by-month countdown of what to book when.

Will a facial cause breakouts?

Occasionally, and it's worth knowing why rather than being surprised. Clearing congestion can bring something to the surface that was already forming underneath. It appears in the following day or two and settles within a few days.

It's more likely on a first facial or if your skin is congested to begin with, and less likely with each regular appointment. Don't pick at it, and it passes.

Can I have a facial with sensitive skin, rosacea or acne?

Usually yes. We adjust the products and the depth rather than turning you away. Tell us before we start so we can pick accordingly.

We'd ask you to wait if you have active cold sores, sunburn, broken skin or an infection on the face, or if you've had a peel, laser or microneedling in the last two weeks. If you take or recently finished isotretinoin (Roaccutane), tell us and we'll book you further out.

Do you do extractions?

Where there's congestion, yes, and only as much as the skin gives up without a fight. Forcing extractions is how people leave looking worse than when they arrived.

If blackheads are your main concern, the hydra facial is the better booking: it uses gentle suction to draw congestion out rather than manual pressure.

Can I book a facial and threading in the same visit?

Yes, and the order matters, threading first, facial after. Doing it the other way round means pulling thread across skin that's just been cleansed, exfoliated and left slightly more reactive.

Select both when you book and we hold one longer slot so they run back to back.

What's the cheapest facial, and is it any good?

The Classic Cleanse at $40 for 45 minutes, and yes. It's a proper cleanse, exfoliation, massage and mask. It just doesn't include the extraction and infusion steps that the premium treatments add.

If your skin is in reasonable shape and you want maintenance rather than a fix, it's the right booking and we'll tell you so.

Do I need to book, or can I walk in?

Please book. Facials take a treatment room for 30 to 90 minutes, so they're rarely something we can fit in on the spot. Booking online takes under a minute and you get an instant SMS confirmation.
