The short version

What this place is

Drashti Beauty Salon is an independent beauty salon at 260a Sayers Road in Truganina, in Melbourne's west. We do threading, waxing, facials, hair henna and head massage, and face bleach, thirty-two treatments in total, from a $4 upper lip to a $120 full body wax.

It's owner-operated. We're not a chain and we're not inside a shopping centre. There's no membership and no package you have to commit to, and nobody needs you to leave with something extra.

What that means in practice is that a fifteen-minute brow appointment is a perfectly good reason to come in, and that we'd rather you booked the $40 facial that suits your skin than the $100 one that doesn't.

Who you'll see

One pair of hands, since 2008

Drashti owns this salon and works in it. She has been a beautician since 2008, more than 17 years in the chair, and the name on the door is her own.

Her training started with a Certificate III at Melbourne Polytechnic and hasn't really stopped since: further qualifications in skin therapy, in hydradermabrasion for the hydra facial, in dry needling, and a steady run of shorter courses in between. This industry changes, the products change, the techniques change, and what was standard practice a decade ago sometimes isn't any more. Keeping up with that is part of the job rather than a nice extra.

What her experience actually buys you

Mostly it buys judgement, and judgement is hard to advertise. But it shows up in specific ways:

  • Brows read from bone structure, not from a photo. Where an arch should sit on your face is a different question from where it sits on the picture you brought in, and after enough years you can see the answer before you pick up the thread.
  • Knowing when to say no. Skin that's had a peel two weeks ago, a wax booked by someone on isotretinoin, a bleach on a barrier that's already compromised. Recognising those takes experience, and turning them away takes a business that isn't desperate.
  • Knowing when the cheap treatment is the right one. It's much easier to recommend the $40 facial over the $100 one when you can tell the difference at a glance.
  • A steady hand on the awkward appointments. A first Brazilian is a great deal less awkward with someone who has been doing them since 2008 and won't make it strange.

The same person, every visit

This is a small salon, which means Drashti looks at your skin and Drashti treats it. There's no consultation with one beautician and a treatment with whoever's free, and no rotation of juniors learning on you.

It also means your history is remembered rather than looked up, how your skin reacted last time, how you like your brows, that you'd rather not be chatted at. Over that time that turns out to be most of what people actually come back for.

Ask at the chair

If you want to know whether a treatment is right for your skin, or whether something you've read online is nonsense, just ask. After 17 years she'll usually have a straight answer, and it's free.

How we work

Four things we've decided to be strict about

Not marketing lines, each of these is a decision with a cost attached, which is the only reason it's worth writing down.

1. Every price is published, and it's the price you pay

They are not typed into a web page once and left to rot: the price you read is the price you are quoted when you book, and the price you pay on the day.

2. You book with us, not through someone else

We take bookings here and on the phone, not through the big marketplaces. Booking direct gets you an SMS confirmation straight away, a reminder the day before, a link to reschedule yourself without ringing anyone, and a waitlist that texts you when a slot opens up.

A few directories carry a page for the salon anyway. Those are built by scraping public information rather than by us, and the hours and treatments on them are not always right. This website and the phone are the only two places a booking actually reaches the diary.

3. No stars we haven't earned

You won't find a star rating on this site that we invented. The only ones here belong to real Google reviews, quoted word for word, each showing the number of stars that person actually gave. A rating you haven't substantiated is just a lie with better typography.

We do ask every client for a review by SMS after their appointment, and we ask everyone, not only the people we expect to be happy. Filtering review requests to likely-positive customers is against Google's rules and, more to the point, it makes the resulting rating meaningless.

4. We'll talk you out of things

If you book a hydra facial and your skin would do better with a $50 D-Tan, we'll say so at the chair and change it. If your facial hair is fine and widespread, we'll suggest bleach over removal even though bleach costs less. If you want a Brazilian and it's your first ever wax, we'll point you at the bikini line first.

Being wrong about what someone needs is how you get one visit instead of twenty.

Standards

The unglamorous, important part

Nobody books a salon for its hygiene policy. Everybody notices when it's missing.

Never double-dipped

A fresh applicator for every dip into the wax, for every client, without exception. Cotton thread is used once and discarded.

Reset between clients

Clean linen on the bed and sanitised surfaces between every appointment, not at the end of the day.

Privacy where it matters

Bikini and Brazilian waxing is always in a private room with the door closed, and your slot is yours. There's no queue behind you.

Where our clients come from

Truganina, and the suburbs around it

The salon sits on Sayers Road, which is one of the main roads running east–west through Truganina and on into the neighbouring suburbs. That's the practical reason most of our clients come from a fairly small patch of Melbourne's west rather than from all over the city, even though that patch now crosses three councils.

  • Tarneit, on the same road, and where a lot of our regulars travel from.
  • Hoppers Crossing, the established suburb to our south-east, sharing the 3029 postcode.
  • Point Cook, south-east, City of Wyndham like us, and worth booking ahead for.
  • Williams Landing, east, and an easy run along the main roads.
  • Laverton, east again and over the boundary into Hobsons Bay.
  • Deer Park, about eight kilometres north in Brimbank.
  • Wyndham Vale, south-west, past Tarneit.

If you're coming from further out, book online rather than chancing a walk-in. It takes under a minute and it means the drive is never wasted.

Questions about the salon

Who will be doing my treatment?

Drashti, who owns the salon and has been a beautician since 2008.

This is a small salon, so she's the one who looks at your skin and the one who treats it. There's no consultation with one beautician and a treatment with whoever happens to be free, and no juniors learning on you.

What qualifications do you have?

A Certificate III completed at Melbourne Polytechnic, plus further training in skin therapy, in hydradermabrasion for the hydra facial, and in dry needling, along with a steady run of shorter courses since.

The products and techniques in this industry change, so keeping current is part of the job rather than an optional extra.

Where is Drashti Beauty Salon?

260a Sayers Road, Truganina VIC 3029, with parking at the door. Sayers Road is the main road running through Truganina, so it's a straightforward drive from Tarneit, Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Williams Landing, Laverton, Deer Park and Wyndham Vale.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Saturday, 9:00am to 6:00pm, and closed Sunday. Saturday is the first day to fill, so book ahead if that's the day that suits you.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Walk-ins are welcome whenever there's a free chair, and for short treatments like threading that's often the case. Longer appointments, waxing, facials, hair, are better booked.

Booking online takes under a minute and sends an instant SMS confirmation.

How do I change or cancel a booking?

Yourself, from the link in your confirmation SMS, no phone call, no waiting for someone to pick up. You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment. Inside 24 hours, give us a ring.

Can I book more than one service in a visit?

Yes, and most people do. Select everything you want when you book and we hold one longer slot so the services run back to back, rather than booking you three separate appointments.

Are the prices on this website up to date?

Yes. The figures here are the ones you are quoted when you book, and the ones you pay on the day.

What you see is what you pay. There are no surprise additions at the counter.

What areas do you serve?

The salon is in Truganina and most clients come from Truganina, Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing, with plenty from Point Cook, Williams Landing, Laverton, Deer Park and Wyndham Vale. All of these sit within Wyndham in Melbourne's west, and Sayers Road connects most of them.

What hygiene standards do you follow?

Fresh applicators for every client with no double-dipping into wax, ever. Cotton thread is used once and discarded. Linen on the bed is changed between appointments and surfaces are sanitised.

Waxing that needs privacy happens in a private room with the door closed.
