Lighten it, or remove it?
Almost everyone has fine, soft hair across their face. It's usually invisible. What makes it show up isn't the amount of it. It's the contrast: dark hair against lighter skin, catching side-on light across the cheek and jaw.
Bleach works on the contrast rather than the hair. A cream lifts the pigment so the hair goes several shades lighter and stops reading against your skin. Nothing is pulled and nothing is removed, which is exactly why it suits the areas where removal would be a bad trade.
Because across a broad, soft area like a cheek, removing hair creates a different problem. Fine hair grows back with a blunt cut end, and over a large patch that reads as texture, the thing you were trying to get rid of, in a new form. Threading and waxing shine on defined lines: a brow, a lip, a chin. Bleach shines on broad, soft areas.
So which one do you want?
Nine times out of ten this decides it: run your fingers against the growth. If you feel individual hairs with a bit of resistance, that's hair to remove. If it feels like fuzz rather than hairs, that's hair to lighten.
And it isn't either/or. Threading on the brows and upper lip with bleach across the cheeks is a natural pairing: different problems on different parts of the same face.

The patch test isn't optional
Bleach is the one treatment on our menu where a reaction, though uncommon, is worth taking seriously. Every first-time client gets a small test on the jawline or behind the ear before anything goes near the rest of the face. If you use retinol, tretinoin or acid exfoliants, say so, because those thin the skin barrier and change the answer.

A look at your skin
What you're treating, what's already going on the skin at home, and anything recent: sunburn, a peel, a new active. Thirty seconds, and it's what makes the rest safe.
Patch test
First visit only. A small amount on the jaw or behind the ear while we get set up, so we see how your skin answers before anything else happens.
Cleanse and apply
Skin cleansed so the cream sits evenly, then it goes on in a thin, even layer over the areas you've asked for.
Develop
Around ten minutes, checked as it goes rather than left on a timer. Mild warmth is normal, anything sharper and it comes off straight away.
Remove and soothe
Lifted off, skin cooled and calmed. A little pinkness for an hour or so is normal and settles on its own.
Before and after your bleach
The 48 hours either side matter more than the fifteen minutes in the chair.
For 48 hours before
- No retinol, tretinoin, AHA or BHA exfoliants.
- No scrubs or facial peels on the day.
- Don't come straight off sunburn or a heavy sun day.
- Tell us about eczema, rosacea or active breakouts. It changes what we do, not whether we do it.
- Arrive with a clean face if you can. Makeup has to come off anyway.
For 48 hours after
- Stay out of direct sun for 24 hours, and wear SPF after that.
- Skip hot showers, saunas and the pool for the rest of the day.
- Keep actives off for another two days, retinol especially.
- Mild pinkness for an hour is normal. Anything itchy or raised, call us.
- Go gentle on cleansers for a day or two; plain and bland is perfect.
Facial & bleach, in one hour
Booked together as a package, a facial and a face bleach are $75 and run about an hour in one appointment rather than two trips.
There's a practical reason they belong in that order rather than on separate days. A facial finishes with skin that's been cleansed, warmed and cleared of the oil and product build-up that otherwise sits between bleach and hair. Bleach applied onto that skin goes on evenly and works predictably. Done the other way round, bleach first, facial after, you'd be putting cleansers and massage over skin that's just been treated, which is the opposite of what the aftercare above asks for.

How much does face bleach cost in Truganina?

What does face bleach actually do?
It lightens the pigment in fine facial hair so it stops reading as dark against your skin. The hair is still there. It just stops being the first thing you notice. It's the usual choice for soft downy hair across the cheeks, jaw and upper lip, where removing it would be more trouble than it's worth.
Does face bleach remove hair?
No. Bleach changes the colour of the hair, it doesn't take it away. If you want the hair gone, threading is what you're after for defined areas like brows, lip and chin, and waxing for larger patches.
Should I get face bleach or threading?
It depends on the hair. Fine, soft, widespread hair across the cheeks and jaw usually looks better bleached, removing it leaves stubble across a large area. Coarser hair with a defined line, like brows, upper lip or chin, is better threaded.
Plenty of people do both in the same visit: threading on the lip and brows, bleach across the cheeks.
How long does face bleach last?
Usually two to four weeks. Nothing regrows the way it does after waxing, instead the bleached hair gradually grows out while new darker hair comes through behind it, so it fades rather than stops.
Does face bleach hurt?
No. It's a cream that sits on the skin, so there's nothing to pull or sting. Most people feel a mild warmth or slight tingle while it develops, which settles the moment it comes off. If it ever feels like more than that, say so and it comes off immediately.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes, and we do one as standard on your first visit, a small amount behind the ear or on the jawline before anything goes near the rest of your face. If it's your very first time, book with a little room in your day so the test isn't rushed.
Can I get face bleach with sensitive skin?
Often yes, but the patch test decides that rather than we do. Tell us if you have eczema, rosacea, active breakouts, or if you use retinol, tretinoin or acid exfoliants, because those thin the skin barrier and make a reaction much more likely.
What should I avoid before and after?
Before: no retinol, AHA or BHA exfoliants for 48 hours, no scrubs on the day, and don't come straight from sunburn.
After: no direct sun for 24 hours, no hot showers or saunas that day, keep actives off for another 48 hours, and wear SPF, freshly bleached skin is temporarily more reactive to light.
Can I have face bleach and threading in the same visit?
On different areas, yes, brows threaded and cheeks bleached in one sitting is a common booking.
On the same patch of skin we'd usually space them a couple of days apart, because hair removal and bleach back to back on one area is more irritation than most skin wants. Ask when you arrive and we'll sequence it properly.
