Bikini line or Brazilian?
These two words get used interchangeably online and they absolutely are not the same appointment. The difference is worth knowing before you book, so here it is plainly.
A bikini line wax tidies the edges. Anything that would sit outside underwear or swimwear comes off, and everything inside that line stays exactly as it is. It's the conservative option and it's twenty minutes.
A Brazilian goes further, hair is removed from the front through to the back. How much is left at the front is entirely your call: a strip, a triangle, or nothing at all. We'll ask before we start, and "I don't know, what do people usually do?" is a completely normal answer.
First time? Read this bit.
Book the bikini line. Not because a Brazilian would be too much, but because it lets you find out how your skin handles waxing in a smaller, less sensitive area first. Plenty of people go bikini line for their first appointment and Brazilian from the second onward, and that's a sensible path rather than a cautious one.
The other reason: your first wax is always the sharpest one. Doing that discovery on a smaller area is simply a kinder introduction.

Two weeks of growth, please
Hair needs to be about 5mm, roughly two weeks since you last shaved. Any shorter and the wax has nothing to grip, which means a patchy result and a wasted appointment for both of us. Too long is not a problem: we'll trim it down at the start rather than send you home.
Exactly what happens, so nothing is a surprise
The anxiety is almost always about not knowing. So here's all of it.
You get the room to yourself
Door closed, and a minute alone to undress from the waist down. There's a towel. Everyone uses it, and nobody will be in the room while you sort yourself out.
A quick chat about what you want
How much to take off, whether anything is left at the front, and anything we should know: sensitive skin, medication, first time, recent sunburn. Twenty seconds and it shapes the whole appointment.
Cleanse and prep
The area is cleansed and a light pre-wax product goes on to protect the skin so the wax grips hair rather than skin. Hair gets trimmed here if it's longer than it needs to be.
Section by section
Small sections, one at a time, with the skin held taut. That's what makes it quicker and less sharp. You'll be asked to move or hold a position occasionally. It's routine, and it's the same for everyone.
Tidy and soothe
Any strays are tweezed, then a soothing lotion goes on to calm the skin down. Pinkness for an hour or two is normal and settles by itself.
You get the room back
Another minute to yourself to dress, then out. Total time in the building is usually well under 40 minutes.
Does it hurt?
Yes, a bit, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. But the honest version is more useful than either the scare stories or the reassurance.
Each strip is a sting that lasts a second or two, not a sustained pain. We work in small sections, which means more strips but each one over quickly, and we hold the skin taut, which makes a bigger difference than most people expect. The first appointment is the sharpest one you'll have.
By the second or third visit, nearly everyone reports it being noticeably easier, partly because hair grows back finer when it's removed from the root repeatedly, and partly because knowing what's coming removes the flinch.
Things that help
- Timing. Skin is most sensitive in the few days before your period. If you have flexibility, book a week or so after instead.
- Skip the coffee. Caffeine before an appointment tightens things up. So does turning up stressed and rushed.
- An over-the-counter painkiller about 30–45 minutes before, if that's something you'd normally take.
- Breathe out as the strip comes off. It sounds like nothing. It isn't.
- Say something. If an area is too much, say so. We'll change the order or the approach. You're not being difficult.
Before and after, mostly about ingrowns
Almost every bad waxing story is an ingrown hair story, and ingrowns are largely preventable.
Before you come in
- Don't shave or trim for two weeks. You need about 5mm to work with.
- Exfoliate gently a day or two ahead, not on the day itself.
- Shower beforehand and arrive with clean, dry skin. No oil, no heavy moisturiser.
- Skip retinoids and acid exfoliants on the area for a few days beforehand.
- Tell us about any medication, especially isotretinoin (Roaccutane), that one is a hard stop.
For 24 hours after
- No hot showers, baths, saunas, spa or swimming pools.
- No gym, and nothing that makes you sweat.
- No direct sun, sunbeds or fake tan on the area.
- Loose cotton rather than tight synthetics, this one matters more than it sounds.
- From 48 hours: start exfoliating gently, two or three times a week. This is the ingrown-hair fix.
Please don't shave between appointments
It's the single fastest way to undo the benefit. A waxed hair grows back with a fine, tapered tip; a shaved one grows back with a blunt cut end that's far more likely to curl over and grow back into the skin. It also resets your growth cycle, so the next wax is patchier and sharper. Four to five weeks between appointments and no shaving in between is the whole trick.

How long does my hair need to be?
About 5mm, which is roughly two weeks of growth from shaving. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip, so you get a patchy result and a wasted appointment. Please don't shave or trim in the two weeks before you come in.

How long does it last?
Three to six weeks, depending on your growth cycle. Because waxing removes hair from the root rather than cutting it at the surface, regrowth comes back finer and sparser over time if you stay on a regular four-to-five-week cycle.
Can I get waxed on my period?
Yes, as long as you're wearing a tampon or a cup. It's completely routine and nobody will comment on it.
Do be aware the area is more sensitive in the days just before and during, so if you have the flexibility, booking a week or so after tends to be more comfortable.
Can I get a Brazilian while pregnant?
Yes, and it's a common booking later in pregnancy when reaching becomes difficult. Skin is often more sensitive than usual, so tell us if it's your first wax while pregnant and we'll take it slower and check in as we go. Positioning is easy to adjust; just say what's comfortable.
Is there anything that means I shouldn't book?
A few things. If you take or have recently finished isotretinoin (Roaccutane), waxing can lift the skin itself, wait, and check with your doctor on timing.
Skip it too if you have sunburn, broken skin, an active infection or a rash in the area, or if you've used a retinoid or acid exfoliant there in the last few days. Tell us about any skin condition or medication and we'll work out whether today's the day.
How do I stop ingrown hairs?
Exfoliate gently from about 48 hours afterwards and keep it up two or three times a week. That's the single most effective thing you can do.
Wear loose cotton rather than tight synthetic fabric for the first day, keep the area moisturised, and don't shave between appointments: a shaved blunt tip is far more likely to curl back into the skin than a tapered waxed one.
What should I avoid straight afterwards?
For 24 hours: hot showers, baths, saunas, swimming pools, spa, the gym, sunbeds and direct sun. Skip fake tan and heavily fragranced products on the area too.
The follicles are briefly open, and heat, sweat and chlorine are what turn a normal wax into irritation.
Is it a private room?
Yes. Brazilian and bikini waxing is always done in a private room with the door closed, by Drashti, who's been doing this since 2008. Your slot is your own and there's no queue behind you, so nothing gets rushed.
Do you double-dip the wax?
Never. A fresh applicator is used for every dip into the pot, for every client, without exception. Linen on the bed is changed between appointments and surfaces are sanitised.
Do I need to book, or can I walk in?
